Our Hollywood Vacation

A vacation for 2 (Just Jared and myself) to Hollywood, California!  We had a great time away and found quite a different world there!  I know we took a lot of pictures (this isn't even all of them), but there was so much to see and we learned a lot about movies and TV...

Walking along Hollywood Blvd. there are 101 stars.  It was fun to walk along and read names.  LOTS and LOTS of people.  Plenty of advertisers for tour groups handing out flyers and people trying to get you to take and listen to their own recorded CD's.  Also people dressed up like stars or movie characters to make tips from tourists.  Of course there were street venders selling things and T-shirt/souvineer shops all the way down.  Funny thing... all the T-shirts were the same in all the stores.

Jared and I waiting to eat lunch and stopped to take a picture with the Hollywood sign right behind us.  This was also a very similar view from our hotel room window.

Jared and Batman posing!

Star Wars in front of the Grauman's Chinese Theater (were they have movie premiers).

Captain Jack Sparrow, tourists, Captain America and Jared sneaking into the photo (really funny to do).

Michael Jackson look-alike hanging out in front of his star.  People everywhere....I think we were the minorities.  We found people speaking all kinds of languages we didn't know.  Some sounded like German, French, Spanish, Oriental (I know that isn't a language, but they sure like to travel to California for vacation)...

They even had a Disney Store with an ice cream shop inside.  Hanging out with Mickey!

Prints in the cement in front of the Grauman's Chinese Theater.  Jared and I had fun reading these prints.  We also got to go inside the theater and watch the final Harry Potter movie in 3D, which was great!

This is for the memories of watching old westerns with my Mom!

Can't not take a picture of these unique Star Wars footprints.

Too fun to see the things they put in the cement (gun and horse shoe's)!

Standing on a small red carpet in front of the Grauman's Chinese Theater.  For the movie premiers they lined up more red carpets!

My Dad is Famous!  DENNIS JAMES has his very own star!

The ONLY Celebrity we saw!  Joan Rivers was doing some kind of filming at Madame Tussauds wax museum on Hollywood Blvd.  We may have been in her filming!  Funny!

Then inside Madame Tussauds Wax Museum this is who we met!

Will Smith

Jared's interview with Ryan Seacrest

Kristi danced with Fred Astair and Ginger Rogers.

Somehow we ended up in jail in the Wild West!

Can you believe Captain Jack Sparrow took a minute to get a photo with us!

Kristi got to skateboard with Tony Hawk!

...And broke wood under the direction of Jackie Chan!

Jared braved breaking it with his head!

This picture is upside down.  Just look out the windows.  Jared is hanging from the phone on the desk.  Now thats some crazy glue!  Spider Man came to his rescue!

---UNIVERSAL STUDIOS CALIFORNIA---

Posing in front of the globe!

On the Universal Studios Tour we saw how they make sets for movies and TV shows.  It was extremely entertaining.  This is one of their outdoor sets that they change up for any show they need.

You may recognize this building from Back to the Future!

And there are the cars.  Sorry its hard to catch everything well on a tour bus.

They made it rain in a Mexico town and it even had flash floods (man produced).  Pretty cool.  It was filmed in BIG Fat Liar.

This was part of the town on The Grinch.  Whoville!

This was an end of the world film (an actual plane they tore apart and set here for the movie).

We also saw were Disney rented a location and shot the water scenes on Pirates of the Caribbean.  They did it in front of a huge outdoor screen and put shallow water on the ground.  Tough to explain, but neat to see.

Peterson Automobile Museum near Hollywood, California
Jared posing by some cool looking cars.

They had all kinds of cars from all kinds of years here.  If you like cars just a little or a lot, you'd enjoy a walk through at this place.

Kristi pretending to get into the woody.  We were not aloud to actually touch any of these cars.  Notice the fun settings in the background.

This looked like a car owned by someone in the mofia.

Jared posing by the Hollywood car.  I like the side photographs.  See if you can spot Professor Fate from The Great Race (an old movie) on the Hero's car?  Its on the left side.

Of course a batman car.  Fun movie posters in the back!

This car was worth the whole trip to the museum to me.  I used to watch "The Amazing Race" with my family growing up.  Its one of my Dad's favorite movies.  This is Professor Fate's grand automobile!!!  I didn't know it existed still and never expected to see it in a museum.

Jared entering the Hotwheels Collection.  Look at all of those little cars racing over his head (not actually moving, just glued on).

This race car was in a kids area in the museum.  Jared doesn't quite fit down in.  I guess you have to be pretty small if you want to drive race cars.

The HOLLYWOOD Museum

Dorothy from "The Wizard of Oz" wore these Ruby Red Slippers in her movie.

This is clothing and pictures from "High School Musical 3"

If your into the Twilight Sega, here are things from "New Moon."

This was taken for my friend Sarah, who has the most knowledge about Transformers of anyone I've ever met!

I don't think they could have a museum without showing something from Michael Jackson.

This is Grauman's Chinese Theater back in 1927.  Look at those cars!

I learned a couple of things in the Max Factor Hollywood makeup rooms.  1-They had different makeup rooms depending on your hair color.  2- I have never hear of a Brownette.  3-  They matched your lipstick according to your hair color and not your skin color.

Indiana Jones memorabilia!  They have all sorts of things in the case that you can't see.  We weren't allowed to use flash in here.  It must not preserve things as well if exposed to that.  His whip and gold cup were here....

The Warner Brothers Studio VIP Tour

I made Jared stand here in the gift shop so I could take a picture of those FRIENDS mugs (instead of buying one).  We enjoy that show and we also got to go on the Ellen Degeneres Set were her show is filmed.  We weren't allowed to take pictures even though they aren't filming right now.  Thats okay, if you want to see it, just watch TV. =)

This is an outdoor set that is reused over and over.  They just change a little here and there to make it look different.  This was the orphanage on Annie.

Do you recognize this CLOSED set.  They aren't filming this anymore, but did film Friends here for 10 years.  This was their hangout "Central Perk."

This is the Warner Brothers Studio Prop house.  These are some of the things that can be rented for background stuff or props for movies, commercials, TV shows, Music Videos.  They had tons of stuff from spoons to furniture to be rented using a bar code system and checking them out.

Here is more stuff in the prop house.  In the back you see one of two standing chandeliers they no longer rent out because they are worth too much money.  These were 3 million dollars each (in value today).

They also have movie cars on display like this car from Dukes of Hazzard.

The Scooby Doo Mystery Van

Yogi Bears Flying Contraption

Ron Weasley's family car used in Harry Potter!

Here is the famous Warner Brothers water tower.  In the old days they had to have water towers on sight to have access to when they needed to put out a fire.

This looks like any neighborhood right.  Well it is reset over and over for different movies.  One that I thought was fun:  This is River City from the Music Man.  The yellow building on the left is the Pool Hall mentioned in the movie.

Most of the houses are used for several outside filming.  Notice the back of the house is a different color than the front.  They do this on a lot of the houses so they have more houses to use in shows and they save space and money.  The insides of most houses are not built.  They film in sound stages indoors.  Its faster and easier.

Kristi, Daffy Duck, and Jared hanging out in front of the Warner Brothers Studio Tours Office.  Did you know the Studio has its very own zip code.  They have a lot of land and buildings they call their own.

Back at Hollywood.  This is actual Highland St. an intersection of Hollywood Blvd.  Jared and I were riding a bus back from the Warner Brothers Studio when we saw several police car lights going ahead of us on Hollywood Blvd.  We finally got off the bus and walked because we were only a few blocks from our stop, and the traffic was backed up.  Apparently there was a well known DJ who tweeted that he was going to do a block party in front of the Grauman's Chinese Theater on the night they had a movie premier of Planet of the Apes.  They police called in several cops to prevent the party and over 1000 young people got upset and some started throwing things.  The police came in the masses to prevent incidents and stop the craziness.  Jared and I were not around, but we did have to go around the block to get to our hotel.  These are some pictures of the police cars you could see from our hotel window.  They also had 2 helicoptors (probably for the news), and motorcycle cops, and cops on horses.  Crazy.  We just ordered room service and stayed in the hotel for the night.

Look at all of those police cars.  They had some in other areas moving the traffic another way.

Do you see the horse trailors and police on horses waiting for something (I'm not sure).  What an adventure.  Of course it happened when we were there.

Kristi pretending to be a star and walking down the steps from the Kodak theatre.  Several tourists took pictures here every day.

Jared just showing the stars strip on Hollywood.  This is in the morning, so there weren't too many tourists.  Nothing is opened until about 10 am. here.

Behind Jared is one of the Metro buses that we rode to get around.  We also rode orange ones and the train underground.

They were showing Cirque de soleil IRIS here at the Kodak Theatre.  We didn't go because tickets were $95 plus per person.  We shall do that adventure another time at a lower cost.

More photo's of Hollywood Blvd.  Notice the double decker tour bus.  We actually went on our tour with another company.

A view of a smaller crowd in front of the Grauman's Chinese Theater looking at the prints in the cement.

We went on a Hollywood Star Homes Tour, which was interesting.  This was our only stop to get a view of the city and the Hollywood sign (behind us).

They build houses on stilts in some of these areas.  NUTS!

The view went on quite a ways, but the smog made it tough to see a lot of it.  Good old LA!

The Hollywood sign used to say HollywoodLand, until the "land" part fell off and they just redid the sign later just saying Hollywood.

Here is someone rich and famous' house.  You can't see most of it, and I can't remember were most of the people live.  Interesting that they all have gates and shrubs surrounding them so you can't see them.  I don't blame them.  Fun mountain drive though.

Here is the famous Beverly Hills sign.  Everything went up in price when we entered this area.  Jared said the price of gas was a dollar more than at home.

Here is the school sign where famous people's kids go to school at $25,000 tuition per year per kid not including books, clothes, supplies...  Its also were the Fresh Prince of Bel Air was filmed.

These are the statues (through the bus picture) in front of Bill Cosby's house.  He had them all put in.  Fun to see, but you couldn't see his house.
This is Rodeo Drive, where a lot of famous people are found shopping and dining.  There is a suit store were the minimum price of a suit is $50,000 dollars (according to our local tour guide).  She was fun to listen to.

More of Rodeo Drive.  They also had some normal shopping stores found in malls, only with extra stuff in them.

Back to the Hollywood Highland Center and a view from the mall of our attatched hotel.  It made it convenient for us to walk to a lot of things.

Notice the people taking pictures of the Hollywood sign on the bottom of the picture (there were people there all the time).

This is the sign outside our Hotel Valet Parking (which we always walked by).  I love the Hollywood Farewells.
